Transport Analysis is appointed by the government to be responsible for official statistics in the areas of transport and communications.

There is a distinction in Sweden between official statistics and other public statistics. Official statistics are statistics that are produced according to the statistical act and ordinance and published as required by official regulations.

Official statistics shall be objective and made available, free of charge, to the public. Further, they are to be produced and published in a manner that protects the privacy of individuals. Transport Analysis publish official statistics in various areas: Road traffic, Rail traffic, Maritime transport, Civil aviation, Postal services, Telecommunications, Travel and commodity flow survey, Public transport. You will find all statistics in the top menu and below. Transport Analysis also publish other statistics within the framework of developments in the transport area. It can be entire reports as well as individual tables. Such statistics are not subject to the same formal requirements and are not published under the designation Sweden's official statistics.

Official Statistics of Sweden

Sweden’s Official Statistics (SOS) are statistics that are particularly important for describing Sweden. Official statistics contribute to the development of our society by being objective and relevant, which benefits citizens. Transport Analysis has been tasked by the Government to be responsible for the official statistics within Transport and communications. As a government agency responsible for statistics, we are responsible for ensuring that

  • the statistics are objective
  • the statistics are documented
  • the statistics are accompanied by a quality declaration

Official statistics must be kept publicly available free of charge on the internet. All official statistics must bear the text Sweden’s official statistics and/or carry the logo.

The logo and the text Sweden’s official statistics may not be used in further processing of the official statistics.

Government agency network

There are about thirty government agencies in Sweden who are responsible for the official statistics. Statistics Sweden is responsible for coordinating and supporting the system for official statistics.
